Free Cooking Classes at the Mall!

For every person who pledged to learn to cook better in 2010, the Technique Classes at Williams-Sonoma at First Colony Mall are ready and waiting. The complimentary classes, held Saturday mornings from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., help participants improve cooking skills in a friendly, instructive environment.

Classes for February include:

  • Saturday, February 6: Italian Comfort Foods. Italian-American dishes have become some of the most popular comfort foods. In this class, participants learn how to make meatballs from scratch and how to make a classic marinara sauce. Other recipes include Tuscan white bean soup paired with focaccia, Italian flatbread.
  • Saturday, February 20: Cooking Up Comfort. Comfort foods are perfect for winter days. Class demonstrates how to make homey recipes, including meat loaf with mashed potatoes, tacos and more dishes.

All Technique Classes are held at WILLIAMS-SONOMA, located in The Courtyard next to Ann Taylor and Swarovski. Technique Classes are free, but space is limited and reservations are required. Call 281.313.1180 for information or to reserve a space.

Missing a Mitten?
Do you even own mittens? Don't really need them much in Sugar Land! However, if your kids have mittens for those few cold days we have annually or for traveling to cold destinations, you may have purchased them through Lands' End. If you lose one, Lands' End "Lost Mitten Club" will help you reunite with them. Contact them with the style number and color of the mitten you are missing and, if it's in stock, they will send a replacement for half the "pair price" and ship it free. Visit landsend.com to find out more.

Save on College Textbooks
A reader e-mailed us asking for tips on saving money on college textbooks. We suggested getting the isbn numbers for each book and shopping online at Amazon or other book sellers, or checking into a textbook exchange program at their school. Other readers wrote in with even more great tips! Carrie of Sugar Land said her daughter bought her textbooks on ebay. Also, Ruth of Sugar Land said she found www.DealOz.com to be the best search engine for textbooks. Her son saved nearly $200 through DealOz.com! Now, that's smart shopping!
